Our Mission
The purpose of the Go By Bike Shop is to develop a bicycling community around Portland. To achieve this goal the founder and owner of the shop, Kiel Johnson, started the Safe Routes To School Bicycle Advisory Council. The goal of this council is to develop and implement innovative ideas to encourage bicycling to school. In 2011 Kiel was awarded an Alice Award for bike advocacy for organizing bike trains to schools around the city. At the end of 2011 he had helped start bike trains at 14 schools and over 3,200 people had ridden to school in a bike train. To learn more about bike trains go to:
